August 29, 2010 sermon

Join us for a day of Community Celebration. We will enjoy fellowship, worship, food and FUN. The day will begin at 9 am with fellowship and ministry information. Worship will begin at 10:30, lunch from 12-1, and FUN from 1-3:30. We will end the day with a homemade ice cream contest. If you've got a special recipe you make, see RL Stuckey and get your name on the list. Come and join us for all or part of the day.

We would like to have your story in our collection so we can tell the story of New Community Church. Please find a way to share your story. You will decide what to share and approve it before it is shared with others. We would like to hear about any or all of the following: How you came to NCC, What makes NCC who we are? What do you hope for our life together? And tell us about a time when love was real in your life. If you write "My Story" on your Connection card we will follow up with you. We will collect the stories in the following ways:

• Written stories sent to the office or by email to admin@nccraleigh.org. Put "My Story" in the subject line.
• Audio interviews. We'll give you some prompts and do our best to match your schedule.
• Video interviews. These will be done Sundays after worship July 25, August 8, 15, 22 and Wednesday from 5-7 pm on July 21 and 28, and August 11, 18 and 25.
• Poetry or Prose sent to the office or by email to admin@nccraleigh.org. Put "My Story" in the subject line.
• Children will make a mixed media project in their classes.
• Send in old pictures from past NCC events and gatherings.

Calling all artists! All musicians, dancers, painters, mixed media, etc and so on—we want to know who you are and the ways that you might get involved in New Community as an artist. Please speak with or email Ashley Stephenson at nas.image@gmail.com to let her know what type of art you do and together you can talk about how you might share that art with others.

Our church is a host site for Angel Food Ministries. Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.

Veggies will be ready to harvest nearly every day over the summer... tomatoes, beans, squash, and okra are ready to pick!

What to do with the harvested veggies?

1. If the church is open, drop them in the basket on the Community Garden table in the lobby. Monitor the basket to be sure the veggies are being taken.
2. For Angel Food Distribution Weekends, veggies should be harvested in the morning of distribution day. Donations should be coordinated with Chrystal Price and distributed to those that have purchased food boxes.
3. Excess Veggies should be delivered to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Drop off Location: 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh; Mon-Fri 8am-4pm; 919-250-0043.

 

What can volunteers do in the garden during the week days?

Stop by and take a look around! Any time you are in the area you can:

1. Make sure the sprinklers have been running (plants should not be drooping) - the timer is set to self-water but if it needs more, run the water for 30 minutes for a good soaking.
2. Tend to the plants - if they need to be propped up or staked, there are supplies in the shed.
3. Pick veggies as needed and contact a Core Team member with any questions.

 

Projects:

1. Calling all carpenters! The Shed Doors need to be built/installed. We would like to have a way to lock the doors and store our supplies.
2. Mulch may be added to the walkways from the mulch pile behind the shed as needed to keep the path built up and weed free.
3. Compost -- be sure all scraps have been fully covered with leaves/dirt and that the pile has been turned.
4. General housekeeping -- any area of the garden that may need attention (weeding, propping up, etc.)
